Memento (Nolan, 2000, U.S)

In the Memento clip we hear a piece of music being played. The piece of music being played is kind of like watching a montage in a war scene acept this was no war scene. This was a scene with gore and vilence being occured.

When seeing the title in the beginning of the clip, the colour of the title was blue. The colour blue represents a sign of being cold and isolation. This is a definite link to the clip we watched in class. Also with the text, we see it fade away in a slow pace to make sure that this is no rush for the clip. the reason why this is important is because it has to relate to the piece of music being played in the clip. In my own personal opinion, I think that with a slow/minor piece of music being played in the clip, the speed of the clip is in a slow pace.

In the main part of the clip, we see the main character shake a picture of what appears to be a man laying on the floor dead with blood all around the room. When shaking the picture, the picture itself starts to fade away. The reason for this is because it is starting to reverse the clip. This could be a sign of the protagonist not wanting to see the picture anymore. The use of costume in the clip seems to be old fashioned as the protagonist is wearing a suit in the clip so we can probably tell that this film was set in an early year. As a media student I can relate this paragraph to Mise en Scene.

When talking about the protagonist looking at the photograph and not wanting to look at it anymore, we know the reason for this. The reason is because he caused a murder and he wants to get it out of his head. The audience at this stage usually feels a sign of guilt in this situation because they want to help out the person who had suffered. Not only guilt that they feel, but also sorrow. Like I mentioned before, we see a picture of man with blood all around him dead. For a film like this, it usually relates to a more gory horrific film.

Also when talking about the text and titles, the font in this clip is Serif font. With the serif font, it looks more serious compared to most fonts, especially its opposite font, sans - serif font. with the sans - serif font, it looks normal, usually used in a comedy film instead of a gory film.

When talking about the music being played in the clip, it starts of with a low dynamic but throughout the clip it gradually gets louder very slowly. Then near the end of the clip, the music completely blanks out and changes into a more horrific, frightening piece of music making the audience feeling uncomfortable and more scared on what is going to happen next. Meanwhile with the tempo of the music it only changes when it reaches the different type of music being played. This is used to build tension for the audience and make them question, "Whats going to happen next?" or "Why has the piece of music been changed into a more silent scary piece?" This is a great example of what we can expect from a gory clip.

By the time we see the end of the clip, we finally come across to the gun fire. This is how the man on floor died. He got shot in the head by the guy that was wearing the suit. The question that most concerned me is that why did the protagonist do this in the first place? When the tension continues to build up, the gun firing bit has the loudest dynamic in the clip. When the gun has been fired, the whole clip blacks out and it goes into another scene.
