Wallander

The program Wallander on BBC1 was first introduced in 2008 by Firewall.

When talking about shot types in the clip, we see so many extreme close ups in the clip. Some examples can be the picture in the car with the man and what appears to be his son. This represents that they must be so close to eachother as a family. With the picture we see blood all around the picture so obviously we can tell that something has happened in the clip i.e. someone getting killed or some person causing a car crash. Later on throughout the clip we see two girls walking away from the vehicle that the dead man was in. There was an extreme close up of the knife being held from the girl on her right hand. As soon as we see this image, I thought pesonally that the girls must of killed the guy in the car. The question that most concered me is why did the girl kill the man? I reckon is was because they were on a mission. The reason for this is because they looked very serious when one of the girls killed the man. She seems to have a lot of status after she completed the objective. Not only extreme close ups were important in the clip, but also there was an helicopter shot right at the start. The shot revealed a country side/field but with the vehicle in the background.

When talking about Mise En Scene, I usually relate to the costumes that each character wears in the clip. For example, the costumes that the girls were wearing seemed casual. Also when watching the clip I actually couldn't tell what the man in the car was wearing. I reckon he was wearing somekind of jacket. The reason I think this is because he seemed like he was working and he was of somewhere in his vehicle. So I can tell that this is a big difference compared to what the girls were wearing in the clip. With the colour in the clip, I thought it was a bit bright in the clip and that to me seemed a bit strange. The reason I think this is because its a gory violent clip which is showing bright colours. Obviously we see dark and dull colours in the clip but most of the time I saw Bright colours throughout the clip.

Sound was used throughout the clip very well. For example there was a non-diegetic sound at the start of the clip when the music was being played and then it shot straight into the girls. Now the way it shot for me sounded like the knife was scrapping into something which gives a massive clue to the audience. The music itself started of very quietly and then and then gradually got creeper when it was about to cut into the next shot. There were some diegetic sounds in the clip. An example of this can be the knife being dropped into the grass. This sound metaphorically shows that it is a sign of danger and the blood on the knife not only danger is going to happen, but also danger has already happened. The colour red on the knife obviously represents blood and it also gives a clue of horror and gore.

Editing is key when it comes to Fallander. For example I realised that the shot durations in nearly each shot was long. Around anout 5seconds for each shot infact. But when it came to the shot were the girl drops the knife to the ground that only lasted two seconds. Technically, this is the shortest shot duration in the whole of the introduction. This may be because as soon as the girl drops the dangerous prop it wants to cut out before the knife actually has been dropped to the ground.

Brick

The clip Brick was made in 2005 in the United States by Johnson.

The clip that we watched in classroom was the beginning part of the film were we find a girl laying in the river dead, then fades away to another location saying two days later.

When looking at shot types in the clip, we noticed a couple of extreme close ups. For example we see an extreme close up of the girls hand laying in the river not moving an inch. This is a brilliant example showing the girl being dead. The audience may ask questions such as "How did the girl die" or "Who killed the girl and why did he/she do it. We also se another extreme close up of the man looking helplessly at the girl. This extreme close up is to show the mans emotions and how he is feeling looking at this girl.

The sound we hear throughout the clip is mostly only the music being played in the background. The piece of music being played sounds like it was minor which reflects onto this scene being played in the film. The piece of music being played can also be non-diegtic because you would not really hear this noise in a situation like this. An example of a diegetic sound could be the opening and closing of the lockers in the school. Lets not forget that this part of the scene was two days before the girl died or got killed.

The wording and the titles coming in to the opening scene seem to be slow and are always fading in and out. The reason why I think this important is because this is a slow paced film comparing to the slow paced writing. The shot durations were also long for nearly each shot in the scene which again reflects onto the slow paced film.

In my own personal opinion, I reckon the film overall is more of a violent/ gory film because seeing the girl laying on the floor dead reminds me of horror and terrifing consequences.

The sixth sense.

The sixth sense is a film created in 1999 by Shyamalan in the United States. The genre of this film seems to be horrific and gory.

When talking about shot types in the film we usually see a lot of close shots and long shots. For example we see a close up of the womens face when she seems suspicious, anxious and terrified. Close ups are there to show facial expressions and how the character(s) react to a certain situation. Not only close ups of her facial expressions was a key to the scene, but also the objects that were in the room with her was important. For example, the bottle that she carry's when she comes out the basement. There was also a shot that was behind a shelf full of objects as well. This is to show that someone or something is spying on the character and that gives a scene of feeling anxious and scared and makes the audience question "Is there someone behind the shelf" or "Whats going to happen". There were a few long shots as well in the clip. This is to show the background she was in. The background she was in seems to be cold, dark place. This is to represent the scene of lonelyness and discomfort.

When looking at the Mise En Scene, The character's costume seems to be a bit casual for a gory genre. The costume that the women was wearing is a pink dress. The may symbolise her orginising a party for her friends and family. The colour pink is a symbol of bright and piecefulness which may not reflect on to the situation that she is in at the moment so obviously we are seeing a sign of confusion taking place in the clip. With the lighting in the clip, we can obviously tell that it is in a low key lighting situation so again we can tell that something horrible is going to happen when the tension is building up.

When we talking about sound, we usually reflect on diegetic and non-diegetic sound. An example of a non-diegetic sound could be the wind in the background. This is to show metaphorically the women being scared on what is about to happen. Not only that but again it is also reflecting on lonelyness. An example of a diegetic sound can be the rumbling in the room opposite side of the women taking place. Again, this is to reveal someone or something is creeping up on her to give the women the frights of her life.

Title Sequence Vs Trailer.

Title Sequence!!!

A title sequence is when we see lots of writing on the screen being revealed stage by stage. In other words, we usually see who was involved in creating a certain film and what they do. You can even have the actual title for the clip as well.

Trailer!!!

A trailer is when multiple amount of short clips are placed together into one whole clip that creates a montage. A montage can be a clip that can be filmed in multiple amount of locations or situations.

Brief

The task that we have been set in class was to do a pilimentary task involving the whole class to take psrt in the task. The pilimentary task was involving the whole class recreating a scene from the film called Donnie Darko. The scene that we had to do for the Donnie Darko recreation was the scene where the new girl walks into the classroom and sits down next to the boy talking to the teacher.

To achieve this objective successfully we had to make sure that every shot from that scene matched up with our recreation scene. The way how we done this is that we had to make sure that every person in the class took turns on using the camera and getting every shot right. We as a class had to make sure that this was done precisely and correctly in order to make this scene look like the one in the actual film. Not only camera shots was important, but also focusing on the cameras positioning and the angle its supposed to be in.

Shot durations were important as well during the clip because the whole clip needed to be in time. I personally thought that this was essential because when editing the clip we in seperate groups had to cut out bits that we didn't want in the clip.

Memento (Nolan, 2000, U.S)

In the Memento clip we hear a piece of music being played. The piece of music being played is kind of like watching a montage in a war scene acept this was no war scene. This was a scene with gore and vilence being occured.

When seeing the title in the beginning of the clip, the colour of the title was blue. The colour blue represents a sign of being cold and isolation. This is a definite link to the clip we watched in class. Also with the text, we see it fade away in a slow pace to make sure that this is no rush for the clip. the reason why this is important is because it has to relate to the piece of music being played in the clip. In my own personal opinion, I think that with a slow/minor piece of music being played in the clip, the speed of the clip is in a slow pace.

In the main part of the clip, we see the main character shake a picture of what appears to be a man laying on the floor dead with blood all around the room. When shaking the picture, the picture itself starts to fade away. The reason for this is because it is starting to reverse the clip. This could be a sign of the protagonist not wanting to see the picture anymore. The use of costume in the clip seems to be old fashioned as the protagonist is wearing a suit in the clip so we can probably tell that this film was set in an early year. As a media student I can relate this paragraph to Mise en Scene.

When talking about the protagonist looking at the photograph and not wanting to look at it anymore, we know the reason for this. The reason is because he caused a murder and he wants to get it out of his head. The audience at this stage usually feels a sign of guilt in this situation because they want to help out the person who had suffered. Not only guilt that they feel, but also sorrow. Like I mentioned before, we see a picture of man with blood all around him dead. For a film like this, it usually relates to a more gory horrific film.

Also when talking about the text and titles, the font in this clip is Serif font. With the serif font, it looks more serious compared to most fonts, especially its opposite font, sans - serif font. with the sans - serif font, it looks normal, usually used in a comedy film instead of a gory film.

When talking about the music being played in the clip, it starts of with a low dynamic but throughout the clip it gradually gets louder very slowly. Then near the end of the clip, the music completely blanks out and changes into a more horrific, frightening piece of music making the audience feeling uncomfortable and more scared on what is going to happen next. Meanwhile with the tempo of the music it only changes when it reaches the different type of music being played. This is used to build tension for the audience and make them question, "Whats going to happen next?" or "Why has the piece of music been changed into a more silent scary piece?" This is a great example of what we can expect from a gory clip.

By the time we see the end of the clip, we finally come across to the gun fire. This is how the man on floor died. He got shot in the head by the guy that was wearing the suit. The question that most concerned me is that why did the protagonist do this in the first place? When the tension continues to build up, the gun firing bit has the loudest dynamic in the clip. When the gun has been fired, the whole clip blacks out and it goes into another scene.
